Native Nursery

Growing Plants & Community

Our catchment is developing its very own community native nursery, thanks to new funding and local support. The nursery will grow eco-sourced native plants so they can be returned to our waterways, bush areas, and local properties — helping restore the land while strengthening community connections.

Project Background

The Native Nursery was started in September 2025 to grow eco-sourced native plants for restoration projects across the Arapārera catchment. By collecting seed from within our local area and growing it on-site, the nursery will help supply suitable plants for streamside planting, erosion control, habitat enhancement, and wider biodiversity goals.

As a newly established initiative, the nursery is still in its early stages, with plans to expand propagation capacity and develop simple systems for seed collection, growing, and distribution. Over time, it will become a valuable resource supporting both landowners and community-led restoration efforts.

There are opportunities for everyone to get involved as the nursery develops — from helping with basic growing tasks to participating in seed collection and nursery care. In addition to supporting the environment, the nursery will offer a welcoming space for community learning, connection, and hands-on contribution.
